ORNA OREN

Exhibition Opening – Monday, 3 December 2007, 8.00 pm
Exhibition: 3 – 21 December, 2007

Over the past few years artist Orna Oren has focused on drawing baskets and purses – "vessels" for thoughts for femininity, relationships and loneliness.

Recently she has changed her point of focus and is looking out using "bridges" – which enable her to explore the connection between places and situations, between past and present, and mainly between the self and the other, between the artist and the viewer. The series of oil paintings on exhibit takes a critical look at the seemingly insignificant details of the bridge. Oren reveals in great detail the old, the rusty, the imperfections, worn down by time and by the forces of nature leaving the viewer with a feeling of closeness which is further enhanced by drawing the viewer closer and forcing his attention to the minute details of the color and fabric he then finds himself pulling back in an attempt to see the whole bridge.

The realistic focus on the details of the bridges, creates a direct and sharp experience; it then moves the viewer to reflections on bonding and separation, on passages and the affect that time has on our lives.
